Class Information
The goal of this class is to provide an extensive and thorough learning experience to better understand the respiratory system of the pediatric patient. The anatomical, pathophysiological and developmental challenges provided by the patient population will be described.
Objectives:
- Describe the differences between the pediatric and adult respiratory systems
- Review the respiratory component of the pediatric assessment triangle
- Elaborate on specific manifestations of increased work of breathing and distinguishing respiratory distress from respiratory failure
- Provide guidance on the hands-on assessment
