Class Information
Burn injuries are some of the most high‑stakes, high‑stress situations we encounter in pediatric care, and our ability to recognize severity, intervene early, and support families can make a profound difference in outcomes. Today, we’ll break down the essentials—from initial assessment to stabilization, wound care, and transfer considerations—so you leave feeling more confident, prepared, and empowered in these critical moments.
Objectives for this course include:
- Identify anatomy of partial and full thickness burns
- Describe nuances of the initial trauma management of the burn injured patient including pediatric airway management and starting IV fluids
- Review of the secondary survey, including IV fluid resuscitation, IV fluid titration, and non-accidental trauma
- Recognize criteria to refer to a burn center
- Understand basic wound management
- Discuss factors in rehabilitation through a burn injury
