Neonatal Sepsis

  • Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:
  • Differentiate between early onset and late onset sepsis
  • Discuss risk factors of early onset sepsis and determine the probability of early onset sepsis using the newborn sepsis calculator
  • Describe the clinical management for the baby with sepsis

Neonatal Labs
Speaker: Tanya Kamka RNC-NIC, MSN

Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:

  • Understand cell differentiation and its application to the CBC with differential and platelets in the newborn period
  • Review the clotting cascade and apply knowledge of its function to interpretation of clotting factor lab results in the newborn period.
  • Identify abnormal electrolytes in infants by lab results & clinical symptomatology

Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
Speaker: Pam Wright MS, PNP

Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:

  • Identify 2 drugs associated with fetotoxic effects when taken in pregnancy
  • Identify the physical and neurological problems of the drug exposed baby
  • Describe the differences between a “toxicity” and a withdrawal state after delivery of a drug exposed infant
  • Recall two medications that are recommended for the treatment of opiate withdrawal in infants
