Neonatal Sepsis

- Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:
- Differentiate between early onset and late onset sepsis
- Discuss risk factors of early onset sepsis and determine the probability of early onset sepsis using the newborn sepsis calculator
- Describe the clinical management for the baby with sepsis
Neonatal Labs

Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:
- Understand cell differentiation and its application to the CBC with differential and platelets in the newborn period
- Review the clotting cascade and apply knowledge of its function to interpretation of clotting factor lab results in the newborn period.
- Identify abnormal electrolytes in infants by lab results & clinical symptomatology
Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:
- Identify 2 drugs associated with fetotoxic effects when taken in pregnancy
- Identify the physical and neurological problems of the drug exposed baby
- Describe the differences between a “toxicity” and a withdrawal state after delivery of a drug exposed infant
- Recall two medications that are recommended for the treatment of opiate withdrawal in infants
