This symposium has been developed for healthcare providers caring for women with substance dependence during pregnancy and is presented by medical professionals in obstetrics, psychiatry, neonatology, and social work. It’s our hope that attendees will gain new insights that will improve practice or validate practices that you are currently implementing.

Program Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

• Explore how the history of addiction, patient perspectives, and life experience impact childbearing women
• Review the maternal fetal effects of substance use in pregnancy
• Identify the characteristics, withdrawal issues, and treatment recommendations for infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
• Discuss psychosocial aspects of caring for pregnant women and new mothers with substance use disorders
• Offer a new perspective on ethical relationships between caregivers and patients using substances while pregnant
