Class Information
Our management and understanding of Pediatric Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) has evolved quite a bit in the last several years as more research has come to light. This lecture will highlight the changes, as well as address some of the major PEARLS and pitfalls of managing Pediatric DKA.
Objectives
- Review pathophysiology and risk factors for pediatric diabetes and DKA
- Highlight history and physical examination PEARLS for DKA
- Identify how to diagnose and assess severity of DKA in pediatrics
- Discuss cerebral edema and best ways to avoid
- Review parameters for disposition and admission in pediatric DKA
