Perinatal Exposure to Drugs

  • Identify 2 drugs associated with fetotoxic effects when taken in pregnancy
  • Identify the complications of prenatal methamphetamine use
  • Identify physical and neurological problems of the drug exposed infant

Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the physical and neurological problems of the drug exposed baby
  • Describe the differences between a “toxicity” and a withdrawal state after delivery of a drug exposed infant
  • Recall two medications that are recommended for the treatment of opiate withdrawal in infants

Caring for the Woman with Complex Social and Behavioral Needs

Upon completion of this program the participant will be able to:

  • Review caring theories of difficult patients historically and currently
  • Discuss research studies that explore the stigma associated with difficult patients
  • Identify nursing strategies aimed to optimize care for the difficult patient
  • Understand nurses' coping mechanisms as care providers and explore self-care strategies to relieve job related stress
