Class Information
Integrative Medicine (IM) offers many safe, effective, and evidence-based modalities which help address gaps in care for many patient populations and can improve care for almost all patients. However, within many medical training programs, IM education is not available or is offered only as an elective.
Education Gaps:
This lecture will address three (3) major gaps in IM education by:
Addressing provider concerns that IM modalities are not evidence-based through review of modern research;
Allowing participants to experience the positive effects of IM via self-care experiences;
Offering suggestions for high-quality IM continuing education programs.
Lecture Objectives:
1. Understand basic integrative medicine services being delivered at a major medical center (UCSF) in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.
2. Master a simple acupressure protocol to help patients manage common symptoms (pain, nausea, anxiety).
3. Learn integrative medicine self-care techniques to help increase resiliency and reduce provider burnout.
